Amidst the threat of war with Pakistan and widespread tension in the Middle East, Iran has surprised everyone by successfully launching a satellite. Experts fear that this step of Iran is increasing the danger of making nuclear missiles. Iran said on Saturday that it had successfully launched a satellite and placed it in its highest orbit ever. This is part of the program in which Western countries have expressed apprehension about Tehran making advanced ballistic missiles.

This announcement by Iran has come at a time when Israel’s attacks against Hamas in the Gaza Strip are continuing and recently Iran and Pakistan have carried out air strikes in each other’s countries. These developments are increasing tension in West Asia. The Soraya satellite was launched into an orbit about 750 kilometers above the Earth’s surface with a three-stage rocket, state news agency IRNA said. However, no information has been immediately shared regarding which area the satellite is used for.

America opposes Iran’s launch

The launch is part of Iran’s civilian space program as well as the space program of Iran’s ‘Revolutionary Guards’, the report said. The US has previously said Iran’s launch of the satellite violates a UN Security Council resolution and has asked Tehran to refrain from any activity involving ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons. UN sanctions related to Iran’s ballistic missile program expired last October. (AP)
