Washington: America has also approved the allegations of rigging made by former PM Imran Khan in the elections held on February 8 in Pakistan. This may increase the problems of PM Shahbaz Sharif. However, Pakistan had already advised America or any other third party not to interfere in its internal affairs. But with this American report, it is certain that Pakistan will be humiliated on the international stage.

Let us tell you that by exposing the irregularities in the general elections held on February 8 in Pakistan, America has expressed American commitment to strengthen the democratic institutions of this cash-strapped country and to cooperate to counter terrorist threats. Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu will testify on Wednesday before a parliamentary committee that is holding a hearing on ‘Investigating the future of democracy in Pakistan and US-Pakistan relations after the elections’. Lu is the same diplomat whose alleged warning to former Pakistan Ambassador to the US Asad Majeed was the subject of a ‘cipher’ (secret diplomatic message) sent by the envoy in Islamabad. The same diplomatic communication was later used by jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan to allege a US plot to oust his government in 2022.

Case going on against Imran Khan for misuse of confidential documents

The founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is facing trial on charges of misuse of the same confidential document. In written testimony uploaded on Tuesday, Lu raised several issues related to the two countries and laid out further outlines for US policy in Pakistan. He noted that the State Department had issued a clear statement last month, a day after the general elections in Pakistan, outlining unjustified restrictions on freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly.

He said the State Department condemned election violence and restrictions on human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as attacks on media personnel and restrictions on access to the Internet and telecommunications services. “We were particularly concerned about the incidents of electoral misconduct and violence that occurred in the weeks leading up to the election,” he said.
