Israel kills Hezbollah commander

Israel has killed Wissam Hassan Tawil, a top commander of the Hezbollah group, in an attack on southern Lebanon as fears grow that the war in Gaza could spread to the Middle East. The Israeli attack comes amid escalating attacks on the Lebanese border as fighting in Gaza takes a toll on the enclave’s civilians. Earlier, a Hezbollah rocket attack hit a sensitive air traffic base in northern Israel, one of the largest attacks in three months.

Let us tell you that after the assassination of a senior Hamas leader in Beirut last week, attacks and counter-attacks have intensified. Hezbollah described the attack as an “initial reaction” to the assassination of Hamas deputy political leader Saleh Arouri.

Hezbollah said the attack on an SUV killed Wissam Hassan Tawil, a commander of the secret Hezbollah force operating along the border. He was the most senior militant in the armed group to be killed following a Hamas attack in southern Israel on October 7 amid the war in Gaza and fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.

Israel said – the war will continue

Israel said it has largely completed major operations in northern Gaza as it focuses on the central area and the southern city of Khan Yunis. Officials said fighting would continue for several months as Tel Aviv seeks to eliminate Hamas and return hostages taken during the group’s October 7 attack. More than 23,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, which has devastated the area and displaced about 85 percent of its population of 2.3 million. This war has attracted the attention of the whole world but all efforts to stop it were in vain.
