Jaishankar roared in Japan
Jaishankar Japan Visit: Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is on a visit to Japan. Here he said that India is the most populous country in the world. The most populous country is also kept out of the UN. If the UN Security Council does this then it will not be good for it.
Jaishankar, who attended the Nikkei Forum on Friday, said on India-Japan Special Strategic Partnership that India and Japan need to be given the same place in the Council that they deserve. He said, ‘If the most populous country in the world and some of the biggest resource providers are kept out of the United Nations, it will not be good for the organization. So we want this to be realized quickly.
Need for change in United Nations
Jaishankar has gone on a tour of Japan from 6 to 8 March. He is here for the 16th foreign-level strategic dialogue with his Japanese counterpart Yoo Kamikaba. He stressed that the UN was established in 1945. At that time there were about 50 member countries. Today there are 200 member countries. Under these changed circumstances, it has to be understood that there is a great need for reform in the UN.
UN failed to play its role effectively: Jaishankar
He said, ‘If the members of an organization increase four times, then the leadership and decision-making capabilities of that organization may not remain the same.’ He further said that today there are many important issues around the world, but the United Nations is not playing the role it should play.
Not everyone has equal representation in UN, said Jaishankar
He further said, ‘We know that there will be change in the UN, there will be change in the Security Council. But the bigger issue is how much time will it take and in what form will it be possible? Jaishankar said that neither Latin American countries nor African countries are represented here. Whereas Africa is a continent of more than 50 countries.
