MPs in Pakistan voted in the presidential election, know who has the upper hand – India TV Hindi

Islamabad: Members of Pakistan’s National Assembly and provincial assemblies voted on Saturday for the presidential election, in which Asif Ali Zardari’s victory is considered almost certain. If Zardari is elected, he will become the President of Pakistan for the second time. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have declared 68-year-old Zardari as their joint candidate. Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai, 75, is contesting for the presidential post.

It is noteworthy that voting for the 14th President of Pakistan started at 10 am and will continue till 4 pm. The new President of Pakistan will replace the current President Dr. Arif Alvi, whose five-year term ended last year. However, he will continue in office until the new electoral college is formed. According to the Constitution, the President is indirectly elected by an electoral college consisting of federal and provincial policy makers.

Starting from PM Shahbaz Sharif, these leaders cast their votes

Parliament House and buildings of provincial assemblies have been converted into polling stations for voting. Zardari cast his vote in the presidential election in a joint session of Parliament. Prominent leaders who cast their votes till afternoon included Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PTI party leader Omar Ayub and PML-N’s Ishaq Dar. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that his father Asif Zardari will once again become the President. (Language)
