Nature’s havoc in China’s Yunnan province, 8 lives lost in landslide; 39 people missing – India TV Hindi

At least 8 people died in a landslide in China.

Beijing/Kunming: At least 8 people died and 39 are missing in a landslide on Monday in the mountainous Yunnan province located in the southwestern region of China. According to the news of government news agency ‘Xinhua’, the accident happened at 5:51 am Beijing time in Liangshui village of Zhaotong city. It said that 8 people have been confirmed dead and 39 others are missing due to landslides. Rescue officials said that 47 people living in 18 houses were buried under the debris.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from the affected areas

State television ‘CCTV’ said that more than 500 people have been evacuated from landslide-affected areas. The seriousness of the accident can be gauged from the fact that the Provincial Commission has activated the third level emergency response for disaster relief. According to official media, efforts are underway to rescue people buried under the debris after the landslide. More than 200 rescue personnel along with 33 fire vehicles and 10 loading machines have been deployed to search for the missing people. Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered the search for missing people and all possible rescue efforts after the landslide.

There may be light snowfall in the city today

According to reports, Xi said, ‘Every possible effort should be made to search for the missing people by deploying rescue teams. As far as possible, efforts should be made to reduce the number of casualties. Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang also ordered all-out rescue efforts in Liangshui and stressed the need to maintain social stability in view of the area’s altitude and ethnic diversity. The cause of the landslide is not yet known. The local weather forecast said the city will see light snowfall on Tuesday and the minimum temperature could be minus 3 degrees Celsius.
