How did Maldives tourism figures change?

The share of Indian tourists in Maldives tourism was 11.1 percent by 31 December 2023, while Russia was in second place. Whereas China was at third place with 10 percent share. In the data released by the Maldives government on January 3, China was not even visible in the top-10. However, by January 13 in 2024, the share of Indian tourists reached third place with 8.1 percent. During this period, China had reached sixth place.

Till January 21, China was at fourth position and India at fifth position.

After the visit of Maldivian President Muizzu to Beijing, by January 21, China reached the fourth position in Maldives tourism and India slipped down to the fifth position. According to the data released on January 28, China has reached third place with 9.5 percent share.
