Permission for worship in Vyasji’s basement welcomed in America

America News: A prominent Hindu American group in the US on Thursday welcomed the Varanasi District Court’s decision to allow Hindu devotees to worship in the basement of Vyas Ji in the Gyanvapi Masjid complex. Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America (VHPA) and about six other Hindu American groups issued a statement calling it a ‘historic decision’. A media release said, ‘VHPA greatly appreciates this well-considered and just decision taken by the Honorable Court. This historic decision restores the rights that were illegally taken away from Hindus in November 1993.

It said, ‘VHPA emphasizes that this case is not about a fight against any minority group, but fundamentally related to property rights. This decision is based on irrefutable evidence presented by the Hindu side and is in perfect accordance with the principles of justice.” It was built after the demolition of a Hindu temple.

Indian Muslims in America condemned the court order

Meanwhile, the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) strongly condemned the court order allowing Hindu devotees to worship in the basement of Varanasi’s Gyanvapi Mosque. “We stand firmly against every attempt to erase our history and heritage and manipulate religious discourse for political purposes,” IAMC Executive Director Rashid Ahmed said.

Muslim side has filed petition in Allahabad court

The District Court of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday ordered Hindus to have the right to worship in the basement of Vyas Ji located in the Gyanvapi complex, against which the Muslim side filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court on Thursday. The Muslim side has also filed an application in the district court of Varanasi requesting to stop the Hindu side from worshiping at the said place. A few hours after the court gave Hindus the right to worship in the basement of Vyas ji located in the Gyanvapi complex, late on Wednesday night the basement was opened and cleaned and then worship was performed there.
