An Indian-origin warrant officer in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) on Tuesday pleaded guilty to charges of having sexual relations with a minor. Subramaniam Thaburan Rangaswamy (50) will be sentenced in this case on February 1 and two other charges will also be considered, The Straits Times reported. The court ordered that the identity of the victim, who is currently 17 years old and was 15 years old at the time of the incident, not be disclosed. Deputy Public Prosecutor Sunil Nair said that the incident occurred on December 6, 2021, during the school holidays.
This is how the incident happened
According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Sunil Nair, the girl had an online meeting with the school counselor at 11 am, but there were many people in her house. So she went to a multi-storey car parking area to have a private conversation. He told that after about an hour, while coming down from the fifth floor, she fell down the stairs and during this time Subramaniam (50), who was present there, helped her. He said that the victim thanked Subramaniam and went home. During this, Subramaniam also moved towards his motorcycle when the girl brought a ‘can’ of tea from home and both of them sat on the fourth floor of the car parking and started talking. After an hour, the intimacy between the two increased and they also formed a relationship. After this both of them left from there.
The girl filed a case 2 days after the incident
Two days after the incident occurred, the girl lodged a police complaint against Subramaniam. First Warrant Officer Subramaniam was suspended after his arrest. A Singapore newspaper quoted a ministry spokeswoman as saying, “The SAF will take further action after the court hearing is over, and may even be dismissed from service.”
