Tension has persisted between India and China since the bloody clash in Pangong Lake in 2020. After this, the Tawang clash that took place in the year 2021 took the tension between the two countries to its peak. Since then, despite twenty rounds of military talks, relations between the two countries have not been normalised. Whereas China has been claiming that the situation on the India-China border is normal. But the Indian Foreign Ministry has refuted China’s claims and made it clear that relations between the two countries have still not improved. India on Thursday once again said that its relations with China are “not normal” and the two sides are holding diplomatic and military talks to resolve the pending issues in eastern Ladakh.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Our stand on China is well known. These relations are not normal, but we have talked at the military and diplomatic level.” He made this comment in response to a question asked about the situation in eastern Ladakh in the press conference. Jaiswal also referred to the talks between the two sides at the military and diplomatic levels in October and November respectively. “The main thing is that we talk so that we can find a solution,” he said. In the military talks held on October 9 and 10, both sides agreed to quickly and mutually resolve the outstanding issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the western sector. The discussions were held in an open and constructive manner to find a mutually acceptable solution.

India-China relations complicated since 2020

Regarding the diplomatic talks held on November 30, Randhir Jaiswal said that both sides had in-depth and constructive discussions and discussed proposals to resolve the remaining issues and complete withdrawal of troops in eastern Ladakh. India says that unless peace is restored in the border areas, its relations with China cannot be normal. There was a standoff on the eastern Ladakh border on May 5, 2020, following a violent clash in the Pangong Lake area. Since then, the ice in India-China relations has not been melted. (language)
