Russia built a 30 km long train wall

Russia Ukraine War: The war continues between the troops of Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russia has resorted to new defensive technology to avoid Ukrainian troops. The Russian Army has changed its strategy in the Donetsk area of Ukraine and adopted a new defensive method. Russia has prepared a long train chain, which will be like a 30 kilometer long protective wall. This ‘Tsar Train’ extends for about 30 kilometers between the Russian-controlled towns of Olenivka and Volnovakha. This serves as a major obstacle for its forces close to the front lines of the war in eastern Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian open-source intelligence tracker DeepState, this series includes about 2100 cargo trains. That is, by connecting these trains, the Russian army has erected a wall in front of the Ukrainian army. The effectiveness of this engineering structure remains uncertain. But its initial objective is clear that it is designed to stop the Ukrainian defense forces.

Satellite images reveal the wall of trains

The US-based think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes that this train could serve as a defensive line against future Ukrainian attacks. According to the ISW report, satellite imagery from May 2023 and February 2024 reveals extensive lines of trains connecting Olenivka and Volnovakha.

Work on such security started from July 2023

Russia began assembling it in July 2023, signaling a strategic move to strengthen its security in a region of intense conflict. This can be considered as a separate line of defense as the 30-kilometre long mass of metal is extremely difficult to damage, move or blow up. It is impossible to prepare a corridor for the movement of equipment without breaking it.

Heavy fighting has been seen in the area

The strategic situation behind Russia’s construction of this railway line is due to the ongoing conflict in this area. Heavy fighting has been seen in the Donetsk area, less than four miles from this line. It included Olenivka and Volnovakha, located just east of important front lines. The construction of the Czar Train in a relatively inactive area of the front is a preemptive measure to strengthen Russian defenses. This strategic deployment of ‘Tsar Train’ by the Russian army in eastern Ukraine also marks a significant turning point in a war.
