Colombo: The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 21 fishermen and seized two of their boats. Rameshwaram Fishermen Association has given this information.
Recently there was news of arrest of 15 fishermen
On Friday, it was reported that the Sri Lankan Navy has detained at least 15 Indian fishermen off the coast of Karainagar in the northern Jaffna peninsula. The action was taken over allegations of fishing in the island nation’s waters. The Sri Lankan Navy had seized the boats of the fishermen and referred the matter to the Directorate of Fisheries for investigation.
Fishermen are the main reason for dispute between India and Sri Lanka
It is noteworthy that the issue of fishermen often comes up as a dispute between India and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Navy has also fired on Indian fishermen in the Palk Strait. Boats have been seized several times by Sri Lanka. Last year, the Sri Lankan Navy had arrested 240 Indian fishermen and seized 35 of their boats.
