After breaking relations with China, Taiwan now has diplomatic relations with only 12 countries.
Nauru made this announcement on January 15, just two days after Taiwan’s presidential elections. After this move by Nauru, Taiwan now has diplomatic relations with 12 countries. However, it has strong informal relations with the US, Japan and other countries. China has been claiming that Taiwan is its part. It has often wooed the island region’s diplomatic allies with promises of development aid.
