The court has given the biggest blow to US President Donald Trump. Donald Trump will no longer be able to contest the US presidential election in 2024. Whereas he was the main contender for the upcoming presidential elections from the Republican Party. The court has declared him ineligible to contest the presidential election. This has created an earthquake in American politics. But Trump has also got the support of two prominent leaders of his party, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, against this decision of the court. However, both these leaders are Trump’s toughest rivals for 2024.

Indian-Americans Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, who are in the race for the presidential nomination, on Wednesday protested against the decision of the Supreme Court of the US Colorado state, in which former President Donald Trump will be included in the attack on the US Capitol (Parliament House) in 2021. Because of his role, he has been barred from contesting the next presidential election. The Supreme Court of Colorado State has said in its decision that Trump had a role in the attack on the US Capitol in 2021 and hence he cannot contest the next presidential election. The court also said in its decision that Trump’s name should be removed from the presidential primary election from the state’s Republican Party.

Decision given on the basis of 14th amendment of the Constitution

This decision to disqualify former President Trump (77) is related to the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which states that the officers who have taken oath to support, obey and keep the US Constitution intact, if they commit “insurrection”. If they join the office then they will be debarred from joining the office in future. Trump is at the forefront of the nomination process from the Republican Party for next year’s presidential election. Trump’s campaign team has pledged to challenge the Colorado Supreme Court’s ‘flawed’ decision in the US Supreme Court.

Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy gave this reaction

Responding to the Trump case, Haley, former governor of South Carolina and Trump’s opponent in the Republican primaries, said that we would never want judges to decide who can and who cannot participate in the presidential race. “I don’t think Donald Trump needs to be president,” Haley said. I think I need to be president. I think it is good for the country.” Regarding her presidential candidacy, she said, ”But I would like to defeat him (Trump) in a fair manner. We don’t need judges to make these decisions. We need voters to make these decisions.

At the same time, 38-year-old Ramaswamy pledged to withdraw from the Colorado Republican Party’s ‘primary ballot’ until Trump’s eligibility for candidacy is restored. Ramaswamy called on other Republican Party members to take the same stance on ‘X’. (Language)
