London: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s ambitious ‘Rwanda Bill’ could once again not be passed in Parliament. Members of Britain’s upper house ‘House of Lords’ demanded amendments in the bill. Also, the bill has been sent back to the ‘House of Commons’, the lower house of the Parliament. Rwanda’s Security (Asylum and Immigration) Bill will be reintroduced for voting in mid-April after the Easter recess. Members of the Upper House of Parliament rejected the changes made by the ‘House of Commons’ on Wednesday night.

The British government says the Rwanda bill aims to stop refugees coming to Britain illegally through the English Channel. Under the Rwanda Bill, the British government will send asylum seekers back to Rwanda, from where they can apply for asylum in Britain. The opposition Labor Party has described the scheme as an expensive “scam”. However, the Conservative government said that through this, illegal immigrants coming through the English Channel would be stopped.

PM said- these changes took place during my lifetime

“Since I became Prime Minister, the number of illegal refugees has fallen by more than a third,” Sunak said in the House of Commons on Wednesday. This is because we have doubled the funding of the National Crime Agency and we have increased illegal immigration enforcement raids by 70 percent. “We have closed 7,500 bank accounts, deported 24,000 illegal immigrants,” he said. Labor Party leader Keir Starmer accused the government of wasting taxpayers’ money on the scheme. (Language)
