Today is the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attack in Mumbai on 26 November 2008. The horrifying memories of this attack are still fresh in the minds of people. Pakistani terrorists came to India via sea and took Indians and other people hostage at many places including Taj Hotel in Mumbai. During this period, 166 people including 18 security personnel were killed in the terrorist attack. All the terrorists were killed in retaliation. The only surviving Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Aamir Kasab was captured alive by India. After which he was tried and hanged. Israeli child Moshe Holtzberg, who was in Mumbai at that time and was only 2 years old, also has a deep connection with this attack.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hugged Israeli child Moshe Holtzberg after meeting him during his visit to Israel in 2017. Moshe was also invited to come to India. Moshe’s horrifying memories of the Mumbai attacks and those wonderful moments spent with PM Modi are still fresh. That is why Moshe has remembered both these times in a special way. Let us tell you that Moshe had a narrow escape in the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai. Moshe Holtzberg’s grandparents have expressed their gratitude to the people of India for feeling their grief and accepting them as their own.

Pakistani terrorists had also killed Moshe’s parents.

Terrorists of Pakistan’s terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked several places in Mumbai on 26 November 2008, one of which was ‘Nariman House’, also known as Chabad House. Moshe was just two years old at the time and was at Nariman House with his parents Gabriel Holtzberg and Rivka Holtzberg at the time of the attack. Moshe’s parents were killed in that barbaric attack. “The people of India remember what happened on this day 15 years ago,” Moshe’s maternal grandfather, Rabbi Shimon Rosenberg, told PTI. You remember the havoc that was wreaked on our family and other Israeli families.” He said, ”I, my wife Yehudit and Moshe believe this wholeheartedly and want to express our gratitude to all of you in India for this. You felt our sorrow and considered it your own.

Mentioned Israel-Hamas war

“This year has especially shown how terrorists want to kill Jews, but we want peace all over the world,” Moshe’s grandparents said against the backdrop of the war between Israel and Hamas. A picture of his nanny Sandra, saving him from the attack and holding him to her chest, was revealed, which caught the attention of the whole world. “Moshe is doing well and is attending yeshiva,” Rosenberg said. Sandra is in Israel and visits us from Jerusalem on the weekends. She is like a member of our family and this house is hers too.” Sandra was given honorary citizenship by the Israeli government and was honored with the title of ‘Righteous Gentile’. This is a rare honor and is given to those who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.

Moshe raised voice against terrorism

Moshe, who narrowly survived the Mumbai terror attack, released a video message last year making a poignant appeal to the international community to find ways to combat terrorism. So that “no one has to go through what he went through.” In that video, Moshe also shared his story of survival. He was saved only because of the courage of Sandra “who risked her life to save him.” Moshe also shared the story of his upbringing with the world. He also recalled his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Israel in 2017 in the video. “He hugged me lovingly and invited me to visit India with my grandparents,” she said. (Language)
