Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan is afraid of not having fair elections in the country. Imran Khan, who is in jail in corruption and other cases, has expressed fear of irregularities in the elections. Imran says that this will weaken democracy, hence it is necessary for the elections to be transparent. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has demanded a level playing field for his party in the general elections to be held on February 8, saying lack of fairness in the elections will increase the atmosphere of ‘instability and uncertainty’.

71-year-old Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, made the remarks while informally addressing reporters at Adiala jail on Saturday. Cricketer-turned-politician Khan claimed that his party is also facing a lot of difficulties in election campaigning as the party is facing difficulties in holding public meetings due to restrictions. According to the news of ‘Dawn’ newspaper, he said that the officials are ‘harassing’ and detaining his party candidates to stop them from contesting the elections.

Imran gave this warning

Khan warned that if fair elections were not held, it would lead to “instability and uncertainty” in the country. “Release me just three days before the elections and allow just one public meeting and everyone will see what we can achieve,” The Express Tribune reported. Khan claimed that there are no laws or rules in the country but still he will not take the law into his own hands because he is a politician and will play till the last ball. (Language)
