How to become agriculture scientist: If you have interest in agriculture and want to make a career in this field, then you can join this field as an agricultural scientist. To become an agricultural scientist, it is necessary that you have taken science subjects in 12th and have passed this class with at least 50 to 55 percent marks. The admission criteria are different everywhere but at least these marks are required. If you have both Bio and Maths in 12th then it is very good, this keeps the options of Agricultural Engineering open, otherwise it is very important to have Biology. With bio you can join courses like B.Sc Agriculture.

Can do this course

After scoring minimum marks in 12th, you can take Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture to go into this field. Like BE in Biotechnology, B.Tech in Engineering and Technology, B.Sc in Horticulture/Agriculture/Soil Science/Forestry, BE in Bioinformatics, BE in Agriculture and Irrigation. You can choose any of these courses as per your choice. Plant breeding, husbandry, agronomy are some other subjects.

How to take admission

Mostly entrance exams are given for admission to these courses. Admission is done by passing many examinations like ICAR AIEE, AMUEE, BCECEB, JEE Main, JEE Advanced. Many institutes also conduct their own entrance examinations.

After this take master’s degree

After Bachelors comes the turn of Masters degree. You can do Master in any of the subjects like MSc in Agriculture/Horticulture/Forestry/Soilscience. To become a scientist, it would be better to take a PhD degree also. This can be in agriculture or agronomy. Apart from this, many institutes also offer many certification courses.

Where do you work, how much salary do you get?

After taking the degree, one can work on many posts like Agriculture Manager, Agriculture Lawyer, Agriculture Technician, Senior Agriculture Manager. Earning depends on many things like the institute from where you have done the course, where you are working, how much experience you have, what is the post etc. Roughly, one can easily earn Rs 4 to 5 lakh per year at the entry level and later Rs 10 to 15 lakh per year.
