The list of officers who will be awarded gallantry and service medals on the occasion of this year’s Republic Day has been revealed. Information has been given by the Union Home Ministry that on the occasion of Republic Day 2024, a total of 1132 personnel of Police, Fire Service, Home Guard and Civil Defense and Reform Service will be honored with Gallantry and Service Medal. According to the information given by the Home Ministry, out of 277 gallantry medals, the maximum are 72 policemen of Jammu and Kashmir Police, 18 policemen of Maharashtra, 26 policemen of Chhattisgarh, 23 policemen of Jharkhand, 15 policemen of Odisha, 8 policemen of Delhi. , 65 policemen from CRPF, 21 personnel from SSB have been provided. The remaining personnel are from other States/Union Territories and Central Armed Police Forces.
Gallantry awards to 277 personnel
President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG) has been awarded to two and Gallantry Medal (GM) to 275 personnel on Republic Day. Majority of the 277 gallantry awards are being awarded to 119 personnel from Left Wing Extremism affected areas, 133 personnel from Jammu and Kashmir region and 25 personnel from other areas for their gallant action.
How many medals for which department?
According to the Home Ministry, out of 102 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), 94 have been awarded to Police Service, 4 to Fire Service and 4 to Civil Defense and Home Guard Service. Of the 753 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM), 667 have been awarded to the Police Service, 32 to the Fire Service, 27 to the Civil Defense and Home Guard Service and 27 to the Correctional Service.
