CISF gets its first woman Director General, Neena Singh gets the command of the security force

CISF gets first woman Director General Neena Singh

New Delhi: The central government on Thursday appointed new chiefs of three paramilitary forces. The Center has appointed Anish Dayal Singh as the new chief of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Neena Singh as the new chief of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Rahul Rasgotra as the new chief of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). As soon as Neena Singh was appointed the chief of CISF, her name got registered in the pages of history. Actually, Neena Singh is the first woman IPS officer, who has got the responsibility on this post.

Till now only men were handling the command of CISF.

After its formation in 1969, till now only men were commanding the CISF, but the appointment of Neena Singh has broken this tradition. Now she will take command of this paramilitary force consisting of about 1.63 lakh soldiers. Neena Singh is currently the Special Director General of CISF. CISF is responsible for the security of airports, Delhi Metro, government buildings and strategic installations across the country.

DG will remain till July 31, 2024

Neena Singh was commissioned into the Indian Police Service (IPS) as a Manipur-cadre officer, but later moved to the Rajasthan cadre. Neena Singh, a 1989 batch IPS officer, is holding the additional charge of CISF Director General after the retirement of Shilvardhan Singh on August 31 this year. A Personnel Ministry order said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Neena Singh as Director General of CISF till July 31, 2024, i.e. the date of superannuation.

Have also worked in CBI

Neena Singh had also previously worked as Joint Director of CBI from 2013 to 2018. During this period, he has worked on many high-profile cases. Let us tell you that Neena Singh is originally from Patna, Bihar. She has studied at Women’s College, Patna, JNU, Delhi and Harvard University.
