The Congress in Karnataka accused former chief minister and JD(S) state chief Kumaraswamy of illegally taking electricity to illuminate his JP Nagar residence with decorative lights during Diwali. The ruling party posted a video on micro-blogging site ‘X’ along with a statement criticizing the JDS leader, who is also the son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.

Electricity department registered a case

Subsequently, BESCOM vigilance wing conducted an inspection and registered a case under Section 135 of the Indian Electricity Act. Kumaraswamy defended himself on the issue, claiming that the mistake was that of a private decorator who had connected electricity directly to a nearby electric pole. He stressed that upon learning of the matter, he immediately rectified it by removing the illegal connection and drawing power from the meter board of the house.

Congress took a dig at him on the matter and said, “HD Kumaraswamy, the only honest man in the world, illuminated his JP Nagar residence with decorative lights using illegal electricity connections directly from electric poles. This is sad. That due to such poverty a former CM was forced to steal electricity!”
