New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to grant bail to BRS leader K. Kavitha. Let us tell you that Kavita has been arrested by ED in the Delhi Excise Policy scam case. The bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice M.M. Sundaresh and Justice Bela M. Trivedi asked Kavita to approach the lower court. The bench said that this is a procedure which this court is following and it cannot ignore the protocol.
Court also issued notice to ED
The bench said that as far as Kavita’s petition challenging the provisions of PMLA is concerned, the court is issuing notice to ED and asking it to respond within 6 weeks. “The petition challenging the provisions will be taken up with the pending cases,” the bench told senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Kavita. Sibal initially said that people were being arrested on the basis of the statements of government witnesses. The bench said that at this time it is not considering the merits of the case.
Kavita is in ED custody till 23 March
Kavitha, a member of the Telangana Legislative Council and daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, was arrested on March 15 and sent to ED custody till March 23. Let us inform that ED also arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from his house on Thursday after two hours of questioning in the money laundering case related to the excise policy scam. Earlier on Thursday, Delhi High Court had refused to grant interim protection to Kejriwal against any ‘punitive action’ by ED in the case.
