Jain sage Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj took samadhi
Dongargarh: In Jainism, Acharya Shri Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj of Digambar Muni tradition has left his body. He took Samadhi at 2:35 am on Saturday (February 17) night at Chandragiri Tirtha in Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh. Before this, he had resigned from the post of Acharya and had observed fasting and silence for three days. He left his body after fasting for three days.
PM Modi expressed grief
After his samadhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences. PM Modi wrote on his social media account, “The demise of Acharya Shri 108 Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj is an irreparable loss for the country. His valuable efforts for spiritual awakening among the people will always be remembered. He was associated with poverty alleviation throughout his life. Also engaged in promoting health and education in the society.
PM Modi said that it is my good fortune that I continue to receive his blessings. My meeting with him last year at Chandragiri Jain Temple in Chhattisgarh will be unforgettable for me. Then I had received a lot of love and blessings from Acharya ji. His unmatched contribution to the society will continue to inspire every generation of the country.
Jain community shops will remain closed today
People of Jain community across the country will keep their shops closed today on the occasion of Acharya Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj’s Samadhi. His last rites will be performed at Chandragiri Tirtha today at 1 pm. His disciples from all over the country have reached Chandragiri to attend the last rites. It is noteworthy that Acharya Vidyasagar discussed with Yoga Sagar ji on 6 February and then resigned from the post of Acharya. He declared Muni Shri Samay Sagar Maharaj as his successor and announced giving him the post of Acharya.
