New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani will be honored with the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award. Lal Krishna Advani has given his reaction on being honored with Bharat Ratna. Advani has said that he expressed his gratitude to President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conferring Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour, and said that it is an honor not only for him but also for his ideals and principles.
‘My ideals and principles are also respected’
Advani, 96, said it was a tribute not only to him as a person but also to the ideals and principles he tried to follow. He said, ‘After joining RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), whatever responsibility I got in life, I found happiness only in serving my beloved country dedicatedly and selflessly. I heartily thank President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi for awarding me Bharat Ratna. Let us tell you that Advani is considered one of the all-time great leaders of BJP and he has an important contribution in making the party a national party.
‘Advani ji set exemplary standards’
Earlier, PM Modi wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, ‘Advani ji, one of the most respected leaders of our time, has made a great contribution to the development of India. He started his life by working at the grassroots level and served the country as Deputy Prime Minister. Advani ji, during his decades of service in public life, had an unwavering commitment to transparency and integrity and set an exemplary standard in political ethics. He has made unique efforts towards furthering the unity of the nation and cultural revival.
‘This is a very emotional moment for me’
PM Modi said, ‘Advani ji being honored with Bharat Ratna is a very emotional moment for me. I will always consider it my good fortune that I got countless opportunities to interact with him and learn from him. The Prime Minister said that he is very happy to inform that Advani will be given this honour. Last month, the government had announced the country’s highest civilian honor to socialist leader and former Bihar Chief Minister late Karpoori Thakur. (Language)
