In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Sonia defeated BJP’s Ajay Agarwal by more than three and a half lakh votes. Sonia got about 63 percent votes i.e. 5,26,434 votes. BSP was at third place. SP had not fielded a candidate.

Sonia Gandhi first contested elections in Rae Bareli in 2004 and kept winning elections continuously from then till 2019. SP was not fielding candidates in support of Sonia Gandhi. This time in 2024, Sonia Gandhi will not contest elections from Rae Bareli because now she has been elected to Rajya Sabha.
