Srinagar: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Saturday expressed apprehension that big leaders in Kashmir may be placed under house arrest before the Supreme Court’s decision on the petitions filed against the removal of Article 370. He said that the government only needs an ‘excuse’ for this and they have it too. Abdullah said he can only hope and pray that the decision is in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. In Kulgam district, when Abdullah was asked about his opinion ahead of the decision on Monday, he said, ‘They need an excuse to put us under house arrest and they have an excuse.’

‘I can only hope that the decision is in our favor’

Omar Abdullah said, ‘We do not know what the decision will be and this is their position also. If they know, it should be investigated. Who can say with authority what will happen? I do not have any machinery or method to know today what is in the hearts of those 5 honorable judges or what they have written in their judgment. I can only hope and pray that the decision is in our favor, but, neither can I claim that success will be ours, nor can anyone else claim. We are waiting for the decision, let it come, then we will talk.

Omar Abdullah also spoke on the expulsion of Mahua Moitra

On the question of expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, Abdullah said that it is very unfortunate. He said, ‘Farooq Abdullah was present when Moitra spoke to the media after her eviction. Our full support and sympathy are with them. We regret that he was not allowed to express his views in Parliament. This proves that whose stick is his buffalo. Omar Abdullah said that the Bharatiya Janata Party should remember that it will not remain in power forever. “Unfortunately, the tactics she is using today may be used against her in the future,” he said.
