One dead, 16 injured in massive blast in firecracker warehouse in Kerala; People were shocked – India TV Hindi

An explosion took place in a firecracker warehouse in Kerala.

Kochi: One person was killed in a massive explosion at an illegal firecracker warehouse operating in a residential area in Tripunithura in the district on Monday. Along with this, a total of 16 other people including women and children are said to be injured. Police has given information about this entire incident. The condition of the four injured is reportedly critical and they were taken to Kalamassery Medical College Hospital from a nearby hospital for specialist care, police said.

There were huge quantities of firecrackers in the warehouse

The district administration said that the deceased was identified as Vishnu, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram, but other details were not available. The exact cause of the explosion is not yet known, but the fire brigade and rescue workers who reached the spot said that there is a possibility of simultaneous explosion of the huge quantity of firecrackers brought in the warehouse.

Tremors felt for several kilometers

A senior official of the Fire and Rescue Department said that it was a massive explosion, due to which vibrations were felt several kilometers away. He said tremors were also felt at the local fire station and they rushed to the spot, worried by the loud sound of the explosion. The official said that the fire was soon brought under control, but even before that there had been huge damage in the surrounding areas.

The cause of the explosion was not known

The assistant station officer of the fire department said, “We had no knowledge that a firecracker warehouse was being operated in this densely populated area. Those operating it had not taken any permission for this.” Clarifying that the exact cause of the explosion was not yet known, he said they were relying on information provided by locals, who said the accident occurred when firecrackers were being unloaded into the warehouse from a vehicle.

Many houses were damaged by the explosion

“Locals said that the warehouse was being operated in the area for some time and the firecrackers were stored as part of the local temple festival,” the officer said. We will have to verify such details. But, till now we had no information about its operation.” Meanwhile, local residents are still reeling from the impact of the unexpected explosion that shook the area. The roofs of several two-storey buildings in the area were found seriously damaged. Due to the impact of the explosion, doors and windows of many houses were blown away and cars parked nearby were damaged by falling bricks and tiles.
