Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has attacked the government over the new penal provision in the ‘Hit and Run’ law. He said that the work of making ‘Tughlaqi law’ unilaterally without any consultation should be stopped. Truck drivers had gone on strike over ‘hit and run’ (hitting someone with a vehicle and running away).

In view of the massive protests by truck drivers in several states, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on Tuesday said that penal provisions related to ‘hit and run’ will be implemented only after consultation with the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC). He made this comment after a meeting with AIMTC representatives.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s tweet?

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra posted on social media platform ‘X’, “Drivers are the wheels of our economy and progress. They work with a tough lifestyle, facing many hardships on very little money. The law and system should be humane towards them.” He said, ”Every life is precious. It is the duty of the government to protect everyone. The purpose of the law is to make the life of the common man easy, safe and fair and not to push millions of people towards oppression, extortion, imprisonment and financial bankruptcy.

Congress General Secretary said, “The work of making Tughlaqi law unilaterally, without consultation and without involving the opposition, should be stopped.” Congress had on Tuesday supported the demonstration of truck drivers against the strict provision in ‘Hit and Run’. The party said this law can be misused for ‘extortion rackets’ and ‘organized corruption’.

Displeasure among drivers regarding the law

Let us tell you that the drivers took to the road in protest against the new law passed by the Central Government regarding hit and run. The new law provides for a fine of Rs 7 lakh and 10 years’ imprisonment in respect of ‘hit-and-run’ road accident cases. There was a lot of resentment among truck drivers regarding this. The transport system came to a standstill across the country on Tuesday. Drivers left trucks, tankers and buses on the road. There were also reports of violent clashes between police and protesters from many places.
