Lombo Tayeng joining BJP
After Gujarat, Congress has also suffered a major setback in Arunachal Pradesh. Congress legislature party leader Lombo Tayeng joined the ruling BJP ahead of the assembly elections in the state. With Tayeng switching sides, the Congress, which won four seats in the 60-member assembly in 2019, now has only one MLA in former CM Nabam Tuki. Last week, two other Congress MLAs, Ninong Ering and Wanglin Lowangdong, had joined the BJP.
Independent MLA also joins BJP
Apart from Lombo Tayeng, Chakat Abo also joined BJP. Chakat Abo is an independent MLA from Khonsa West in Tirap district. Both the leaders joined the BJP at the party’s state headquarters in Itanagar.
Abo won the Khonsa West seat in the by-election after her husband Tirong Abo, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate, was killed by suspected NSCN militants before the declaration of the 2019 assembly election results.
Congress got a shock in Gujarat also
Let us inform you that earlier, the working president of Gujarat unit of Congress Ambrish Der and senior MLA Arjun Modhwadia resigned in anger over the party’s decision to “boycott” the Ram Mandir Pran Pratistha ceremony held in Ayodhya in January. The two leaders announced their decision just three days before the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi entered Gujarat. Days before Der and Modhwadia quit the Congress, the party’s Rajya Sabha member and former Union minister Naran Rathwa had joined the ruling BJP along with his son and a large number of supporters.
Modhwadia, MLA from Porbandar seat, submitted his resignation from assembly membership to Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary in Gandhinagar on Monday evening. The office of the Assembly Speaker confirmed the acceptance of the resignation.
