All the laborers were taken to Rishikesh AIIMS via air route.
Ranchi: It was a moment of joy and sorrow for one of the 41 workers evacuated from the under-construction Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand. According to reports, the father of Baktu Murmu, a resident of Jharkhand, died just hours before his son came out of the tunnel. The family of the deceased claims that 70-year-old Barsa Murmu died ‘due to worry’ about his son trapped in the tunnel. Barsa’s 28-year-old son Baktu Murmu along with other 40 laborers were trapped in the tunnel of Silkyara since November 12.
He lost his life while sitting on the cot.
Baktu Murmu’s family members said on Wednesday that Murmu was worried about his son Baktu after hearing the news of the tunnel collapse on November 12. Murmu, a resident of Bahda village in East Singhbhum district, died around 8 am on Tuesday while he was sitting on his cot. When contacted, local government officials said they were yet to confirm the cause of death, although Murmu probably died of a heart attack. Let us tell you that despite staying in the tunnel for so many days, all the workers were healthy and safe.
Work will start after security audit
All the 41 laborers rescued from the Silkyara tunnel were airlifted to Rishikesh AIIMS on Wednesday where their health check-up was done. A senior official of the Road Ministry said that the Silkyara Tunnel is part of the Central Government’s ambitious 900 km long and all-weather ‘Char Dham Yatra Road’. He said that work on the 4.5 km long Silkyara Tunnel Project in Uttarakhand will resume after safety audit and repair of the broken structure. Let us inform that on Tuesday night, on the 17th day of the rescue operation conducted on war footing, all the 41 laborers trapped in the tunnel were rescued safely.
