The winter session of Parliament was very noisy

New Delhi: The winter session of Parliament was adjourned sine die on Thursday 21 December. Although it was to run till Friday 22nd December, it was postponed a day before. This time the session was very noisy. Hardly anyone could have imagined what happened in the Lok Sabha on 13 December. Two youths jumped from the audience gallery of the Lok Sabha and left a color bomb in the assembly. The Special Cell of Delhi Police is investigating this matter and has arrested 6 people so far.

146 MPs were suspended from both the houses

This time a historic number of MPs were suspended from both houses of Parliament. A total of 146 MPs were suspended from both the houses. All the suspended MPs were from the opposition. Along with this, the government passed 4 big bills during the winter session. For this reason, this session can also be called historic in terms of functioning. In the session that started from December 4, more than 61 hours of work was done in the Lok Sabha while 65 hours of work was done in the Rajya Sabha.

Lok Sabha lasted for 61 hours 50 minutes

If we talk about Lok Sabha, there were 14 meetings in this session which lasted for 61 hours 50 minutes. During this period 12 government bills were introduced. A total of 18 government bills were passed after discussion. The Lok Sabha on December 12 approved a net additional expenditure of Rs 58,378 crore in the current financial year, a large portion of which will be on the MNREGA scheme and subsidies for fertilizers.

In this session, the Lok Sabha also approved the Indian Civil Code (BNS) Bill, 2023, the Indian Civil Defense (BNSS) Bill, 2023 and the Indian Evidence (BS) Bill, 2023. These three bills have been brought to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1898 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. Along with this, during this session in the Lok Sabha, the Central Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023; National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second (Amendment) Bill, 2023; The Telecommunications Bill, 2023 and some other bills were approved.

65 hours of work was done in Rajya Sabha

If we talk about the Upper House Rajya Sabha, then during this session, 65 hours of work was done in 14 meetings. Due to the uproar, 22 hours of Karana House were wasted. The overall productivity of this session was 79 percent. During this period, 17 bills were passed, including the Indian Judicial Code (BNS) Bill, 2023, the Indian Civil Defense (BNSS) Bill, 2023 and the Indian Evidence (BS) Bill, 2023. Apart from this, Telecom Bill, 2023; Post Office Bill, 2023; Jammu Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023; Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2023; Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill 2023; The Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023 etc. were approved.
