What demands are the farmers coming to Delhi with this time?

New Delhi: Who can forget the farmers’ movement that started in the year 2020? The farmers had surrounded all the borders of Delhi for several months. Farmers protested for several months at the borders. During this period, the death of about 700 farmers was also claimed. During that time, farmers were agitating for the withdrawal of three agricultural laws passed by the Central Government. The government withdrew the laws and this movement ended.

Farmers will leave for Delhi on 13 February

Now once again the farmers have announced their march to Delhi. The farmers have announced to march to Delhi on 13 February. After this announcement, the police including Delhi and the surrounding areas have become alert. Many arrangements have been made to stop the farmers. Nails have been laid on the roads. Cement barricades have been installed. The canals have been dug deep. Section 144 has been implemented in many cities of Haryana. Internet has been created. The police is going from village to village asking people not to join this movement.

What are the demands of the farmers this time?

Last time, farmers had reached Delhi in protest against three agricultural laws, but this time too they have many demands. This time the farmers have mainly ten demands, the main one being making a law for minimum support price. Apart from this, there are many other demands of the farmers which are as follows-

  • Making law for Minimum Support Price (MSP)
  • Kisan Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations should be implemented
  • farm loans should be waived off
  • Justice should be provided soon to the victims of Lakhimpur Kheri violence
  • India should withdraw from WTO and all free trade agreements should be banned
  • Allowance to be increased to reduce import duty on agricultural commodities, milk products, fruits, vegetables and meat
  • Compensation should be given to the families of farmers killed during the Delhi movement and a job should be given to one member of the family.
  • By implementing a pension scheme for farmers and agricultural laborers above 58 years of age, a pension of Rs 10,000 per month should be given.
  • To improve the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the government should pay the insurance premium itself, make all crops a part of the scheme and while assessing the loss, the loss should be considered by considering the farm acre as a unit.
  • The Land Acquisition Act, 2013 should be implemented in the same manner and the instructions given by the Central Government to the states regarding land acquisition should be cancelled.
  • The quality of seeds of all crops including cotton should be improved by amending the Pesticides, Seeds and Fertilizer Act.

Section 144 imposed on Delhi borders

After the announcement by the farmers, Delhi Police has imposed Section 144 on Ghazipur Border, Tikri Border and Singhu Border. Along with this, barricades have been installed on the borders. Police are also checking the vehicles passing through these borders. Along with this, the police there have increased vigilance on the Haryana and Punjab borders. To stop the farmers from moving forward, cement barricades have been installed and water has been released in the canals. Along with this, nails have also been laid on the roads.
