Weather Update: Cold increases in Delhi, temperature drops in many areas of North India

New Delhi: After half of December has passed, finally the cold has increased the chill in the national capital. Along with this, the temperature has also dropped in many parts of North India. Cold winds have also started blowing in the evening. There has been snowfall in many hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and the mercury has dropped below zero degrees Celsius. Along with this, fog has also started showing its effect. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the mercury may drop further in the next few days.

The cold is oppressing at night

According to IMD, Delhi’s minimum temperature on Friday was recorded at 4.9 degrees Celsius, while Mussoorie’s was 6.2 degrees and Shimla’s was 6.8 degrees Celsius. This was the lowest minimum temperature of this season. Amidst the falling temperatures, many people are spending the night in night shelters. According to the Meteorological Department, cold winds blew from north and north-western directions during the day on Friday. The weather remained cold due to fog in the morning. However, there was slight relief due to bright sunshine in the afternoon. According to the department, there may be slight relief in the weather on Saturday.

The minimum temperature will fall further

The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature in the national capital Delhi can go up to 5 degrees Celsius on December 21. However, due to sunlight during the day, there is less possibility of increase in chill. Along with this, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain at isolated places in Tamil Nadu between 16 to 17 December, in Kerala and Mahe between 16 to 18 December and in Lakshadweep between 17 to 18 December, as well as at isolated places. There is also a possibility of thunder and lightning at places. The Meteorological Department has advised people living in these areas to be cautious.
