Weather Update: Heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, dense fog in these states including Delhi

Chilliness increased due to falling temperature

Weather Forecast Today: Cold has increased in the entire NCR including Delhi and Noida. Homeless people are resorting to night shelters to escape the increasing cold. According to the information given by the Meteorological Department, in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, western parts of West Bengal, North Interior Odisha and some parts of Bihar. The minimum temperature has been recorded between 5-10 degrees Celsius. Light to moderate fog is occurring at these places in the morning. Dense fog is also being seen at many places.

Banks, schools and private institutions closed due to rain in Tamil Nadu

On the other hand, it is raining in some areas of South India. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu and Kerala today. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala. There has been heavy rain in Tamil Nadu during the last 24 hours. This has caused waterlogging at many places. The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday for all schools, colleges, private institutions, banks and financial institutions in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts on December 18 due to heavy rains.

Cold wave and dense fog was seen in the national capital Delhi this morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi today are expected to be around 25 and seven degrees Celsius respectively. The 24-hour air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded in the very poor category.

Severe winter in Himachal

The severe cold continued in Himachal Pradesh on Monday also. The minimum temperature remained around the freezing point at many places and below normal at some places. Kukumseri in tribal Lahaul Spiti district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 7.6 degrees Celsius, while Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius. After this, the temperature was minus 0.3 degree Celsius in Reckong Peo, minus 0.1 degree Celsius in Narkanda and 0.8 degree Celsius in Bhuntar. The local meteorological center has predicted dry weather in the state till December 21 and rain at isolated places in mid-level hills and rain or snowfall in higher hills on December 22 and 23.

Cold increased in Jharkhand

In Jharkhand, people are facing extreme cold due to the temperature falling below 10 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has not predicted any major change in this temperature for the next three days. After this, it may drop further by two to three degrees Celsius, which may create a cold wave-like situation in the next week.
