‘Arise, awake and stop not till the destination is reached’, ‘This life is short-lived, the luxuries of the world are momentary, but those who live for others, live truly.’ Swami Vivekananda had said these things in his sermons in slave India. Lakhs of youth of the country were impressed by his words. Later, even America was convinced of Swami’s words. The day of 12 January is dedicated to the name of Swami Vivekananda and is celebrated as Youth Day.

Today is the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, who showed the dream of independent India to the youth of the country at a very young age and made his knowledge known to the whole world. Narendranath Dutt (Swami Vivekananda), born Vishwanath Dutt in a Kayastha family of Gourmohan Mukherjee Street, Kolkata on January 12, 1863, is known as the main propagator of Hinduism. Whenever Vivekananda, who represented Sanatan Dharma, is mentioned, his memorable speech given in America will definitely be discussed. It was a speech that stung the incredible heritage and knowledge of India.

Vivekananda’s house was in a prostitute’s neighborhood.

Vivekananda has been such a monk of India, whose messages force people to follow him even today and his followers are seen not only in the country but in every corner of the world and one such monk whose statement is accepted by the whole world. It was enough to convince. But you might not know one incident related to his life. The same Swami Vivekananda, who won the hearts of the world on the strength of his knowledge, once lost to a prostitute. There is also an incident that Swami Vivekananda’s house was in a prostitute locality due to which Vivekananda used to take a two-mile round trip to reach home.

Read, amazing incident related to Swamiji’s life

It is about the time when Swami Vivekananda had become a guest of the Maharaja of Jaipur before going to America. After staying there for a few days, when it was time for Swamiji to take leave, the king hosted a reception for him. For that function he called a famous prostitute from Banaras. As soon as the prostitute reached outside Vivekanandaji’s room, he locked himself in the room.

Meanwhile the prostitute started singing, then she sang a monk’s song. The meaning of the song was- ‘I know that I am not worthy of you, yet you could have been a little more compassionate. I am just the dust of the road, I know this. But you shouldn’t be so hostile towards me. I am nothing. I am nothing. I am ignorant. I am a sinner. But you are a holy soul. So why are you afraid of me?’

The prostitute’s hymn brought tears to Vivekananda’s eyes.

When the prostitute was singing the bhajan, tears were flowing from her eyes. Vivekananda listened to this song in his room and experienced his condition. Hearing the hymns of that prostitute, Swami Vivekananda came in from outside. At that time he had lost to a prostitute. He went to the prostitute and told her that the fear he had till now was the fear of lust, which he had thrown out of his mind and the inspiration for this came from the prostitute only. He called the prostitute the Holy Spirit, who gave him a new knowledge.
