The Indian Olympic Association has formed a 3-member committee to oversee the functioning of the suspended WFI. Indian Wushu Association president Bhupinder Singh Bajwa will chair the panel while former hockey Olympian MM Somaya and former badminton player Manjusha Kanwar are its two other members. The IOA has recently learned that the new President and WFI officials have taken arbitrary decisions in violation of constitutional provisions and against the rules endorsed by the IOC, the IOA said in a release. Apart from this, many decisions have been overturned.
The committee will handle these tasks
He said that the IOA considers it important to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability and to protect the interests of the players and follow the rules as per the IOC. It has been decided to form an ad-hoc committee. This committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of running the WFI. Which includes selecting players, organizing sports activities, operating bank accounts, managing the website and other related responsibilities.
Ad-hoc committee chief Bhupinder Singh Bajwa said that this is the year of Olympics and we should start preparations from now. We will soon organize all senior and junior championships along with camps so that our chances of winning medals in Paris Olympics can be better. Our aim is to win maximum medals for our country in Olympics as it is one of the most popular sports in India.
