55-year-old Ghulam Jilani, a Muslim tailor from Jharkhand, has designed a 40-feet long and 42-feet wide ‘Hanuman flag’ for the Ram temple in Ayodhya. This flag will be hoisted on the peak of the newly constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya on 22 January. Jilani, from Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand, is a third-generation tailor who specializes in crafting the religious ‘Mahaviri’ flag. Jilani said, “I am proud that the flag stitched by me will enhance the beauty of the historic Ram Temple, which is the dream of more than 100 crore people. If I get a chance, I will definitely go to Ayodhya to participate in the inauguration ceremony.

What did Jilani say?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ or consecration ceremony of the statue of Ram Lalla at the Ram temple on January 22. The 70-acre temple complex has 392 pillars and a 14-feet wide ‘parkota’ spanning 732 metres. Jilani said he learned tailoring from his father Abdul Shakoor who died at the age of 80 about 40 years ago. He said, “I used to work with my father in Bhola Textile owned by Fateh Lal Aggarwal, located opposite Veer Textile. I am working in Veer Vastralaya.

RSS leader had ordered the flag

Devendra Jain, owner of Veer Vastralaya, said, “The 40-foot flag has the image of Lord Hanuman on one side and the image of Lord Ram and Lakshman on the shoulders of Lord Hanuman on the other side.” Jain said Jilani had helped the Hindu community in the area. -Thousands of Ram Navami and Mahaviri flags have been made which strengthen Muslim unity. The task of making this flag was given by Naval Kishore Khandelwal, a prominent leader of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Barabazar Hazaribagh. He claimed that Khandelwal, 81, was part of the group led by senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani who took part in the demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992.

The flag will fly on a 100 feet high pole

Jain said that this flag was made in about 10 days and was ready on December 26. Jain said that 150 meters of cloth has been used to make this flag. It will be installed on a 100 feet high pillar in the temple. He told that the cost of this flag is Rs 21,000. He said Veer Vastralaya was established in 1977 and it makes more than two lakh flags for all religions every year. They also get work of making flags from abroad during Ramnavami and Shivratri.

‘My dream is coming true after 32 years’

Khandelwal, in his recorded statement, said that after participating in the Babri Masjid demolition, he was arrested and lodged in Hazaribagh Central Jail for three months. He said, “My dream of seeing Ram temple in Ayodhya is coming true after almost 32 years. At present I am unwell, but will make every possible effort to participate in the inauguration of the temple on January 22.
