When India faced Australia in the quarter-final match of the Champions Trophy in 1998, Team India won the match by 44 runs. After this, for the second time, India defeated Australia by 20 runs in the quarter-finals of the 2000 Champions Trophy in the ICC Knockout.

In the semi-finals of the 2007 T20 World Cup, the Indian team faced the strong Australian team. Yuvraj Singh played a brilliant inning in this match, due to which the Indian team won the match and also secured a place in the final. The last time India defeated Australia in the ICC knockout was by 5 wickets in the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Cup on the same ground in Ahmedabad.
