Polio patient found in Pakistan.
There has been a sensation in India’s neighboring country Pakistan due to the emergence of 6 new polio patients. This has also increased the possibility of reintroduction of polio in other countries. A new case of polio has been registered in Pakistan, after which the number of cases of this infection has increased to 6. That means 6 polio patients have been found in Pakistan this year. This has dealt a major blow to Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate this disease.
According to a report by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a nine-month-old girl from Orakzai district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the North-West province has been infected with the virus and has been paralyzed. This is the fourth case of polio found in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The other two cases were found in Sindh province. Last year, 20 cases of polio were reported in the country. However, according to data shared by the Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme, the situation was better in 2021 as just one case of polio was found in the country.
Health Minister expressed grief
Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan has expressed grief after the new case of polio in Pakistan. Expressing disappointment over the discovery of a new case of polio, he said, “I am very sad that this virus has taken away from another child the opportunity to live a healthy life and live up to his potential. Polio was eradicated in India decades ago. But after the discovery of 6 polio patients in Pakistan, the Indian government has also become alert. However, at present there is no danger to India due to the discovery of polio patients in Pakistan. (Language)
