American ship enters South China Sea

America on South China Sea: Tension has increased again between China and America. China alleges that the US Navy ship has illegally intruded into the South China Sea. China, which threatens small countries like the Philippines, was left heartbroken when a US Navy ship entered the South China Sea in support of the Philippines. China itself is blaming America for breaking the rules of the South China Sea. China alleges that the American ship has committed ‘illegal intrusion’ in the South China Sea.

According to the information, the Chinese Army has claimed that a US naval ship illegally intruded into the sea near the disputed island ‘Second Thomas Shoal’ on Monday. The island is at the heart of a territorial dispute between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea. China’s naval forces were deployed to monitor the USS Gabrielle Giffords during the operation, the People’s Liberation Army’s Southern Theater said in a statement. The US Navy has not yet commented on this. There have been repeated confrontations between Chinese and Philippine navies and coast guard ships in recent days around the ‘Second Thomas Shoal’.

Why did China try to stop the Philippines?

China has tried to prevent the Philippines from repairing a dilapidated ship, which it deployed as a military base in 1999. Troubled by Chinese military aggression, the Philippines sought America’s help and earlier this year agreed to expand the US military presence in the country. It launched joint sea and air patrolling operations with the US last month.

“The US deliberately disrupted the situation in the South China Sea, seriously infringed on China’s sovereignty and security, seriously undermined regional peace and stability, and violated international law and international relations,” the Chinese military’s Southern Theater said in a statement. This seriously violated the fundamental rules of the South China Sea, and has fully demonstrated that the United States is the biggest threat to peace and stability in the South China Sea.

Why is the South China Sea strategically important?

The South China Sea holds vast reserves of untapped oil and natural gas. This is also a huge area for fishing. It is said that there are huge reserves of natural gas in this area up to 190 trillion cubic feet. Apart from this, the South China Sea is also very important from the strategic point of view for various countries. Its importance for sea route trade is also unmatched. That is why China claims the entire South China Sea. But Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and America and India reject this claim of China. North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam are the major countries whose territorial waters are the South China Sea.

What is the main dispute in the South China Sea?

India’s retired Major General S Meston says that there is a major dispute regarding territorial waters in the South China Sea. Apart from this, Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) is another major cause of dispute. China changed it of its own free will in 2013. This has become a major cause of controversy. Due to this, China’s ADIZ is crossing the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. This is the main cause of controversy. All countries are interested in ADIZ and EEZ. This is because everyone has interests in the mining zone (huge reserves of untapped oil and natural gas and other gems) and fisheries. That’s why everyone wants to establish their rights on the EEZ. They also want to protect their maritime border.
