At least five police officers were martyred and 22 were injured in a bomb blast targeting a police vehicle in Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district on Monday, Geo News reported. The police were going to provide security to polio vaccination teams, the police said. He said that there is a possibility of death of more people in the incident. He said the dead and injured have been taken to Khar Hospital, where an emergency has been declared. Police said blood donations were sought by the hospital for the treatment of the victims. The police spokesman said all the casualties were policemen.
PPP condemned the death of policemen
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman condemned the attack on police officers deployed to protect the anti-polio team in Bajaur. Addressing the social media platform ‘X’, he said that PPP stands in solidarity with the families of the five personnel martyred in the blast.
Demand for strict punishment to the accused
“The terrorists have not only attacked the police but also the health of our children,” the PPP said. “Attack on the security of anti-polio teams should not be tolerated under any circumstances, it is directly related to the health of our children.” Sherry said the miscreants do not want complete eradication of polio from the country. He demanded that the terrorists involved in the incident should be immediately arrested and given strict punishment. Caretaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Syed Arshad Hussain Shah condemned the blast and expressed grief over the deaths. He also expressed condolences to the families of the victims. Shah directed the district administration to provide immediate health facilities to the injured.
