Imran Khan’s troubles increased as Shehbaz Sharif was re-elected as Pakistan’s PM – India TV Hindi

Lahore: With the re-election of Shahbaz Sharif as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the troubles of jailed Imran Khan have increased again. Pakistan Police has started using its baton on the workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). PTI workers were rallying against alleged rigging in Pakistan’s elections. Angered by this, Pakistan Police has arrested more than 100 supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party from different parts of Punjab. Police gave this information on Sunday.

It is noteworthy that on the call of party founder Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had organized protests across Pakistan on Saturday against the alleged rigging in the general elections held on February 8. Most of the people were arrested from Lahore, where newly elected Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had ordered a crackdown on PTI supporters. A PTI spokesperson said, “Police beat and arrested 80 workers and leaders in Lahore. More than 20 people have been arrested in Gujarat city. Protests took place in 38 cities of Punjab and the federal capital Islamabad.

Police lathicharged in Lahore

In Lahore, Pakistan Police lathicharged the protesters at GPO Chowk and Liberty Chowk. PTI leaders Mian Shahzad Farooq and Afzal Azim Fahat, who contested last month’s elections against Maryam Nawaz and her uncle Shehbaz Sharif, were also arrested, the spokesman said. He claimed that Farooq had defeated Maryam, but the Election Commission of Pakistan changed the results. Former Supreme Court Bar Secretary Aftab Bajwa was also arrested. Videos of Khan’s supporters being pulled out of cars and beaten for showing PTI flags are being shared on social media. Punjab Police said they have arrested the protesters who blocked the road. The service of social media platform ‘X’ was also disrupted in the country on Saturday and Sunday. (Language)
