Islamabad/Lahore: Due to the fragmented mandate in Pakistan, no party has yet been able to stake claim to form the government. Imran Khan’s party PTI candidates have won more than 100 seats as independent candidates. But Imran Khan’s troubles are not showing signs of diminishing. Pakistan’s army has launched a fresh round of action against jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party to pressure its election-winning candidates to support political parties backed by the military.

This action between Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the military establishment has started after the party’s massive victory in the general elections in Pakistan on February 8. Party sources said police arrested several successful PTI-backed independent candidates and raided their properties across Punjab province. Arrest warrants have been issued against candidates nominated by PTI for the post of chief minister in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Apart from this, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has summoned Imran Khan’s sister Alima Khan on charges of inciting the public against the government.

Efforts to arrest Ayub started as soon as he was declared PM candidate.

Omar Ayub’s troubles have also started increasing after Imran Khan announced him as PTI’s prime ministerial candidate. He got pre-arrest bail from a local court in an undisclosed case. There was speculation that he might be arrested in some undisclosed case to prevent him from claiming the post of Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s party on Friday claimed that at least 85 seats won by it in Parliament were snatched by rigging. It said Pakistan’s election results would be remembered for the “biggest voter fraud” in the country’s history.

Bushra Bibi’s health deteriorated in jail

PTI has expressed concern over the health of Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Beevi, claiming that her life is in “serious danger” and the “fascist regime” in Pakistan is refusing to treat her. Bushra Biwi, 49, is in jail after an accountability court sentenced the couple to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana corruption case last month. Meanwhile, in another development, Imran Khan challenged his conviction in the Islamabad High Court in the leak of confidential documents and the Toshakhana corruption case. (Language)
