India and New Zealand will jointly make strategy in the Pacific region – India TV Hindi

New Zealand and India Relation: In the Pacific Ocean, not only Australia but also New Zealand is very important for India. Both countries are committed to further improving bilateral relations and working together in the Pacific Ocean. New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters will visit India, Indonesia and Singapore next week to strengthen New Zealand’s ties with South and Southeast Asia. In India he will visit Ahmedabad and New Delhi from March 10-13.

In Ahmedabad, Mr Peters will meet Gujarat Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel. Gujarat is a state which has been the engine of Indian economic development. It has significant ties with the Indian diaspora to New Zealand. In Delhi, he will also highlight the shared interest of New Zealand and India in helping the development of the Pacific Island region.

India and New Zealand have a long history of relations

Relations between India and New Zealand date back to the 1800s, when Indians settled in Christchurch in the 1850s. Large numbers of immigrants came to New Zealand from Punjab and Gujarat in the 1890s. Indian soldiers fought alongside the Anzacs at Gallipoli in 1915.

Political relations between the two countries are also friendly. Both countries became independent in the same year and India’s diplomatic representation was established with the inauguration of a Trade Commission in the year 1950. Which was later updated as High Commission. Both countries share their commitment to disarmament, global peace, North-South dialogue, human rights, ecological conservation and combating international terrorism.
