This is being done so that the ecosystem of the island is maintained and it can be protected from harmful effects.

According to reports, Lanzarote loses about a ton of volcanic material from its beaches every year, while the famed Fuerteventura island loses a ton of sand every month. When this happens, the natural balance on the beach gets disturbed. Tourists arriving on the islands of the Canary Islands used to carry colored stones and sand with them, after which such action has been taken by the authorities.
