There is big news from Pakistan that former Prime Minister Imran Khan will not contest the elections. A leader of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) made this announcement. After this there was an uproar throughout Pakistan. But later the party rejected its leader’s statement. This created a situation of confusion within the party. Senior party leader Sher Afzal Marwat had claimed that the jailed Imran will not contest the post of president in the internal elections of the party. General elections are to be held in Pakistan on February 8.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) wants to retain its election symbol ‘Balla’ then it will have to hold elections within the party within the time limit of 20 days. According to a Geo News report, Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat said on Tuesday that Barrister Gauhar Khan will be the candidate for the post of PTI President. Before that, Imran had reportedly decided not to hold the post of president due to legal hurdles. Khan is currently lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail. Despite Marwat’s announcement, PTI had claimed that Imran Khan had no plans to step down from his post.

This statement came on the discussions of electing a new president in PTI

PTI refuted “speculations” on the election of a new party president in a statement issued on social media platform ‘X’. The statement said, “All important issues are being considered regarding holding elections within the party.” Many party leaders had confirmed that Imran Khan will not contest the election of the party president. However, he claimed that the final candidate would be announced later. But Marwat, the party’s new face in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stuck to his guns despite the party’s denial and said on ‘X’ on Wednesday: “Whatever I have said in my conversation with the media, about the elections within the party, Correct. The party president took this decision in the presence of Senator Ali Zafar, Barrister Gauhar Umair Niazi and me. (Language)
