Amidst the ongoing war with Ukraine, Russia has done a great job in space. Russia has surprised the whole world by doing what no other country in the world could do. Russian astronaut has set a world record for spending most time in space, more than 878 days. Let us tell you that Russian astronaut Oleg Kononenko on Sunday set a world record for the total time spent in space. Russia’s Space Corporation said he overtook his compatriot Gennady Padalka, who had spent more than 878 days in orbit.

Kononenko is expected to complete 1,000 total days in space on June 5 and will complete 1,110 days by the end of September, Roscosmos said. “I fly into space to do my favorite thing, not to set records,” Kononenko told TASS in an interview from the International Space Station (ISS). It is orbiting at a distance of about 263 miles (423 km) from Earth. He is expected to complete a total of 1,000 days in space on June 5 and will complete 1,110 days by the end of September.

Russia said proud of achievements

“I’m proud of all my achievements, but I’m more proud that the record for the total duration of a human stay in space is still held by a Russian cosmonaut,” the Russian cosmonaut said. Roscosmos said the 59-year-old Padalka had achieved a total time of 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes and 48 seconds. But now a Russian has broken that record. In the early years of the space race, the Soviet Union was the first to launch a satellite into Earth’s orbit. It surprised the West by becoming the first country to launch Sputnik 1 in 1957 – and then Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to travel in space in 1961. But after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia’s space program was largely defunded. Officials under President Vladimir Putin have repeatedly vowed to address the decline in Russia’s space programs, although serious problems remain, according to officials and space analysts.
