The Israeli army has completely captured Shifa Hospital in Gaza. Patients, staff and displaced people abandoned Gaza’s largest hospital on Saturday, leaving only a limited number of health workers to care for the critically ill. Health officials gave this information. The hospital is now under the control of Israeli security forces. The exodus from Shifa Hospital in Gaza City occurred on the same day that internet and phone service was restored in the Gaza Strip.

The disruption of telecommunications services forced the United Nations to halt vital humanitarian aid deliveries as it was unable to coordinate relief convoys. Israel expanded its offensive into Gaza City with a military warning in an Arabic social media post, asking residents of neighboring areas to the east and north and the urban refugee camp of Jabaliya to leave the area for their safety. It said that military activities would be stopped for some time to give them a chance to leave. Earlier in the week, the Israeli Defense Minister had said that troops had completed operations west of Gaza City.

26 Palestinians killed in attack on residential building

Attacks also continued in the south of the Gaza Strip, where an Israeli airstrike hit a residential building on the outskirts of the city of Khan Younis, killing at least 26 Palestinians. A doctor from the hospital where the bodies were taken gave this information. Israeli forces are searching Shifa Hospital to locate the Hamas command center. The Israeli Army alleges that this command center is located beneath the building. The army said on Saturday that the hospital director had asked them to help those who wanted to reach a safe route.

The military said it had not ordered anyone to leave, and medical personnel were being allowed to remain in the hospital to help patients who could not be transferred. After the patients were evacuated, Dr. Ahmed Mokhallalati, a physician at Shifa Hospital, said on social media that about 120 patients were left who were unable to leave and included some intensive care unit patients and premature babies. Dr. Mokhallalati said he and five other doctors are there to take care of him. (AP)
