As winter progresses, the war between Russia and Ukraine has intensified again. Russian missiles have destroyed several residential buildings in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine. At least one person died in the attack and several families were buried under the debris. Ukrainian relief and rescue teams are searching for people buried under the debris. Efforts are being made to remove the debris. After the attack, a massive fire broke out, which the security forces are trying to extinguish. Russian forces continue to attack the area with long-range weapons. Local officials of Ukraine gave this information on Thursday.

Ukraine’s Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko said Russian military units fired six S-300 missiles simultaneously at night. The missiles hit three cities in the Donetsk region: Pokrovsk, Novohrodivka and Mirnohrad. Emergency workers pulled the body of a 62-year-old man from the debris of a destroyed high-rise building in Novohrodivka, officials said. He said that four more people, including a child, may be buried under the debris. Officials said that a multi-storey building, nine houses, a police office and several vehicles were damaged in the attacks in Pokrovsk.

Emergency personnel rescued a man who was covered in blood and holding a six-month-old baby. Sarhil Dobryak, head of the city administration, said the city has been attacked for the fourth time in the past month. “They are destroying the civilian population,” he said. All three towns are near the city of Avdiivka, which has seen fierce fighting in the past few months. There are routes from Avdiivka to areas of Donetsk still under Ukrainian control. Ukrainian officials said recently that Russian forces have stepped up attacks in eastern Ukraine and are trying to establish dominance around the key cities of Bakhmut and Avdiivka. (AP)
