NMC’s New Rule Of Clinical Clerkship: Recently, the National Medical Commission has come out with a new rule due to which there is dissatisfaction among FMGs i.e. Foreign Medical Graduates. NMC says that those students who have taken medical degree from abroad and for some reason take a break in the final year and return to India, they will have to complete clinical clerkship before doing internship in India. Only after they complete this clerkship, they will be able to do Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) in India.
FMG is getting confused
According to the report of Education Times, foreign medical graduates are not only confused but also dissatisfied with this decision of NMC. He has said that this will put additional burden on him and his studies will be completed earlier and later. Students say that putting the burden of clinical clerkship will increase the pressure on students because 6 months of training in medicine is enough, there is no need to stretch it for so long.
What does NMC have to say?
In this regard, NMC has issued a rule that the medical students who have returned due to Covid or due to Russia-Ukraine war or for whatever reason, will have to take extra training. Candidates returning for second last year will have to do clerkship for two years and final year students will have to do clerkship for one year.
The commission says that there is lack of training in foreign medical colleges, hence the students from there will have to do compulsory clerkship training before practicing here.
Can’t understand the new rule
The Commission says that while doing MBBS in India, practical training goes on along with theory and there are a lot of practicals in the last year. Whereas this does not happen in FMG. To fill this gap, training is necessary for foreign students. Foreign students i.e. students taking degree from there will have to understand the rules properly before practicing here and for that training is necessary.
The time to complete the course is increasing
Students say that after seeing the mention rules in the new FMG Regulations 2021, they are confused as to how to go to study abroad. This rule of clinical clerkship has come upon him. The tenure of their clerkship is being increased after studying abroad. He says that due to the pandemic, students have already traveled a lot. The same commission says that students are forbidden to choose foreign institutes but they do not agree and later blame the commission.
